World Clubs Tournament Qualifiers

The Malta Equestrian Federation is invited to the World Clubs Tournament in Lamotte Beuvron, France with a team of four show jumpers to represent the country. The competition is open to both adult and junior riders and is a great introduction to international competition.

The competition is held in July (dates to be announced at a later date) in Lamotte Beuvron, France. The team will consist of four riders (adult, junior or a combination). Junior riders must be accompanied by a guardian. Riders will compete over a one-metre course on horses rented in France, over two days. Travel dates will also need to include time to get to know the horses - riders will need to set aside up to a week for travel. Details will be presented closer to the date.

Qualifiers

Two qualifier classes will be held at the end of the EquestriMalta National Championships show jumping competitions on 2nd November and 21st December.

The open class - with adults and juniors riding in the same class - will consist of a course of fences ranging from 80cm to a maximum of 100cm.

Riders must be 12 years old to participate. Athletes will be expected to travel with the team under the supervision of the MEF for the competition. Parents may also join the trip, however they will not be able to stay in the same accommodation.

The class will be against the clock. Riders with the lowest number of faults will win the class. Where there is a tie, the fastest rider will win the class.

Points are awarded to the rider and not the horse/rider combination. Because riders who make the team will be riding hired horses during the competition in France, they may ride different horses in different qualifier competitions.

Two qualifier classes will be held, after which team selection will be made.

Total score of all qualifiers will be added and the top four riders will be selected to go to France for the World Cup Tournament in the summer.

Riders wishing to qualify should attend all qualifiers. Should a rider miss one or more qualifiers they will be awarded 12 faults (or if any competitor has more than 12 faults, the rider who has not participated will take the maximum number of faults of the rider scoring most faults plus four) in their total score. Riders that are eliminated from the class will also be awarded the same number of faults as a person who missed the qualifier in their total score. Time scores for riders that either miss a qualifier or are eliminated from the round will be that of the slowest rider of the day plus an additional four seconds.

Team selection will be made by 1st April and riders on the team will be notified.

Riders will be expected to make a contribution to the trip of no less than €500. Riders will be informed of costs involved at this stage.

Riders who have earned a place on the team may decide that they cannot attend and represent the country at this stage. Once the rider has accepted their position on the team they cannot back out. In the event that a rider chooses not to participate, the slot will go to the next qualifying rider.

Riders attempting to qualify for the World Clubs Tournament are encouraged to participate in all clinics with Head Coach Ettore Metrangolo during the season. Once they are selected for the team, they are obliged to participate.

The World Clubs Tournament is not open to riders riding at CSI level, nor is open to coaches who have FEI Level Coaching Certificates.
