Sports Leave

Both training and competition that takes place during term-time is often unachievable for school-aged riders without missing some school. While we encourage young riders to participate in training and competition overseas, we also fully support that children take their education seriously.

While it is ultimately up to the school, along with the child’s guardians to allow them to be absent from school to participate in training or competition, the MEF will issue unlimited official letters to request sports leave in the following circumstances:

  • National training courses taking place in Malta

  • Competitions and training overseas organised by the Malta Equestrian Federation

  • International level competition (CDI (dressage) or CSI (show jumping) organised under the FEI flag)

For other training and/or competitions, the MEF will issue letters requesting sports leave on a case-by-case basis of no more than eight days per scholastic year.

Applications must be submitted at least one week before departure.

The MEF reserves the right to refuse to issue Sports Leave Requests for any reason.
