Equestrian Games Objectives
For riders not yet ready to participate in the EquestriMalta National Championships, the MEF Equestrian Games will introduce riders to the world of competitive riding.
The MEF Equestrian Games
The MEF hosts the Equestrian Games which will run alongside the National calendar. Participants will compete in Riding Class, Clear Round Jumping, Handy Hunters and Gymkhanas earning points for every competition attended. Prizes will be distributed at the end of the season for overall winners in different age categories. The MEF Equestrian Games is open to both juniors and adults who are not yet ready to participate in the EquestriMalta National Championships.
Objectives
· To define the stages in development from absolute beginner to a rider who can safely and effectively control horses in the three main gaits of walk, trot, and canter.
· To create functional milestones for riders to achieve as they progress to competition starting from balance, position and accuracy and moving on to basic movements present within introductory dressage.
· To encourage a level of practical and theoretical level of knowledge to allow for safe and effective control. Handling and management of horses during competition.
· To develop an understanding on the rules riders are expected to adhere to during competition.
· To instil the basics of the training scale focusing on rhythm, suppleness, contact, impulsion, straightness, and collection.
· To allow for open fun events for recreational riders.
Rules
Riders must be dressed in show/club gear and have adequate footwear and a helmet. The use of back protectors is mandatory for riders under the age of 14.
Athletes will be awarded points individually and not based on horse-rider combinations.
For riders entering multiple classes, points will only be awarded for their first class.
Instructors are responsible for allocating riders into appropriate classes.
Organisers can stop participants at any time if they are a safety risk.
